The Sangria Experience You Need in Sevilla

What comes to mind when you think of sangria? Most people picture a glass of red wine with chopped fruit. I thought the same—until I tried four completely different varieties in Seville, from Sherry-based to white wine to sparkling Cava. The tasting showed me that sangria’s variety stretches far beyond the version I thought I knew, and I cannot think of a better way to learn that lesson than on a rooftop in the heart of the city.
We booked the 7:30pm experience, which turned out to be perfect timing: four full glasses of sangria with the sunset as our backdrop. Each one was made with a different wine and seasonal fruits, and tasting them side by side highlighted the subtle variations that make this tradition so special.
Adding to the experience was our host, Fabio, who was kind and knowledgeable about sangria. He shared its history in Seville and explained that while sangria is popular with visitors, locals are more likely to order a refreshing Tinto de Verano. Similar to sangria but simpler, it is usually just red wine mixed with lemon soda or tonic—a light, everyday drink. Alongside our tasting, we had a plate of olives and cheese, a fitting snack that kept the focus on the drinks.
That balance of learning and tasting is exactly why I love doing experiences like this when I travel. Museums and attractions are always worthwhile, but wine tastings, food tours, or cooking classes allow you to engage with local culture in a way a museum simply cannot. You are not just observing—you are participating, tasting, smelling, and connecting with the place on a more personal level.
Being on the rooftop added another layer of magic. The view of Seville from above, with the warm glow of the sunset painting the skyline, made every sip feel celebratory. It was one of those moments where the drinks, the stories, and the atmosphere all came together in a way I will remember long after the glasses were empty.
If you are visiting Seville and want to experience sangria in a way that goes beyond the typical bar scene, I highly recommend this tasting. You can check it out and book your own rooftop experience here: Sangria Tasting with Rooftop Views. It is worth it for the drinks, the views, and the memories you will take home.
